Police act against 193 persons on charges of hooliganism and drinking in public places

The Dehradun police took action against 193 persons in the wee hours of Monday on charges of drinking in public places, hooliganism and raising ruckus in various public places of Dehradun. The police recovered a penalty of Rs 54,250 from all offenders. Besides this, the police seized 34 vehicles for drunk and drive and rash driving. Also, 10 vehicles were seized for traffic violation and imposed a penalty of Rs 70,000 on about 160 offenders for violations under the Motor Vehicles Act, said the Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh. He said that all police stations in-charges have been directed to take action against those who create a ruckus in public places disturbing law and order, especially during the night.
Following the order, all police station in-charges conducted a checking campaign in their respective areas late on Sunday night. During the campaign, the police took action against people for drunk driving, rash driving and other traffic violations besides on charges of looking suspicious. He said that the maximum number of challans issued under the MV Act were in the Patelnagar, Sahaspur, Cantonment and Doiwala areas with 27, 21, 19 and 17 challans respectively. The police found 34 cases of drunk driving and rash driving cases in various parts of the city during the campaign. Four vehicles were also seized for overloading. Singh said that the police also acted against illegal mining and seized three dumpsters, two tractor trolleys and two machines which were allegedly used for illegal mining.
