Police act against 219 criminals under Operation Prahar

The State police have so far acted against 219 criminals under the two-month Operation Prahar which was launched on August 1 to tackle the land mafia and other major criminals in the State. Since the launch of this drive, a total of 101 cases have been registered across the State, said the director general of police Ashok Kumar. He said that the police have been taking consistent action against all sorts of crime. However, this drive was launched to ensure focused and united action against major criminals and land mafia. According to him, a total of 2,320 cases have been registered since January 2021 and the police have taken action against 4,222 accused and arrested 2,292 accused involved in criminal acts.
Besides this, the police also acted against 1,471 accused of committing land fraud and imposed the Gangster Act on 74 accused. Police action was taken in 183 cases of serious crimes like extortion and theft, out of which action was taken against 30 accused under the Gangster Act. Police also acted on 314 cases of fraud which were committed in the name of providing a government job to the victims besides acting on 302 cases of scams done in the name of chit funds.
The police also took action against 139 accused belonging to the cheating mafia under the Examination Act besides booking 74 accused under the Gangster Act. Kumar said that in the past three years, the police have imposed the Gangster Act on 312 accused and have acquired property worth more than Rs 175 crore. He said that the police in all districts are working efficiently under Operation Prahar and more accused will be nabbed under this drive this month too.
