Police act against man for spreading misleading news against BJP’s LS candidate

The police on Monday took action against a YouTuber from Dehradun district’s Tyuni area, Krishna Prasad (25) for broadcasting misleading news against the BJP’s candidate from Tehri parliamentary constituency Mala Rajya Laxmi Shah in Lok Sabha elections 2024. He along with his accomplices allegedly edited Shah’s statement in a newspaper article and shared it on YouTube and Facebook.
The officials said that Shah had registered an FIR on April 2 against the misleading information being spread on various social media platforms as her statement with the intention to mislead the voters. The officials said that when the police started the investigation, they found that the alleged fake news in the form of a statement in a newspaper was being spread by a YouTube channel named The Krishna Classes.
The police contacted the said newspaper which denied publishing that misleading statement. It was revealed that the channel belongs to Krishna Prasad who was later brought for interrogation. The officials said that the accused stated that he obtained the said fake statement in a newspaper cutting from a WhatsApp group named Bobby Panwar Mission Lok Sabha 2024. He had allegedly edited a video using the said paper cutting and posted it on his YouTube channel.
The police took his mobile phone in their possession and added sections 465, 468, 471, 505(1), 201 and 120(B) of Indian Penal Code to the said case. They issued a notice of 41 CrPC to the accused. The officials said that the police are identifying all the people spreading the said misleading news on social media to take strict action against them as per the rules.
