ICRPF national convenor accused of extorting Rs 10 lakh from two advocates
The Dehradun police arrested Daulat Singh Kunwar, national convener of the Indian Constitutional Rights Protection Forum, on Tuesday for allegedly scamming two advocates of Rs 10 lakh by citing the name of the State’s director general of police Ashok Kumar. He was presented in court and sent to jail the same day.
Two advocates on Monday had complained to the DGP that Daulat Singh Kunwar along with his accomplice had extorted Rs 10 lakh from them in the name of donation and by intimidating them in the name of other senior police officers. He also allegedly threatened to kill them when they demanded their money back, as per the police. Taking cognisance of the complaint, the DGP ordered the station house officer of Vikasnagar police station to file a case against the accused on Monday night. The police on Tuesday started the investigation and surveillance, and arrested Kunwar by the afternoon. The officials said that four cases under various sections were also registered against the arrested accused in Vikasnagar and Kalsi police stations. The police are also gathering information about other offences which may have been committed by Kunwar.
