Police arrest four accused in Tarsem Singh murder case

The police on Thursday arrested four men who allegedly provided weapons, technical support and resources to the shooters- Sarvjeet Singh and Amarjeet Singh who killed Dera Kar Sewa Pramukh of Udham Singh Nagar’s Nanakmatta Gurudwara, Tarsem Singh. They had allegedly given a contract of Rs 10 lakh to both the shooters to kill Singh. They also helped the shooters in absconding after they killed Singh.
The arrested accused have been identified as Dilbagh Singh, Harvinder, Balkar Singh and Amandeep Singh, the Udham Singh Nagar senior superintendent of police Manjunath TC said. He said that Sarvjeet and Amarjeet had come to Gurudwara Nanakmatta Sahib on March 19 and stayed there in room number 23 of the inn. They observed the movement of Tarsem for about a week to learn about his daily schedule. During this period, they had also involved Amandeep, who used to work there, in their plan. Amandeep is the one who told the shooters about the exact location of the victim on March 28. TC said that it was caught on several CCTV cameras that both shooters went to the house of Dilbagh in Uttar Pradesh’s Shahjahanpur after killing Tarsem. Dilbagh and his accomplices paid them Rs five lakh and helped in escaping the police.
The SSP said that the police came to know about these four accused with the help of call records of Sarvjeet. It showed that he was roaming in Rampur, Bajpur, Kichha, Bareilly, Shahjahanpur and other places from March 19 to 27. The teams started investigation to gather more information and found that mobile phones and SIM cards used by shooters during the incident were purchased from Shahjahanpur’s Tilhar area on March 14. The police finally arrested the four accused from different places in the State and UP. The police also recovered two cars that were used by arrested accused to help shooters in fleeing from the State. The SSP said that the police have also increased the bounty from Rs 25,000 each to Rs 50,000. Tarsem Singh was shot dead by two bike-borne assailants at around 6:15 AM on March 28. He was shot twice with a rifle by the pillion rider when he was using his phone while sitting on a chair.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) consisting of 11 teams and over 85 police personnel is investigating the case. It is being speculated that Tarsem was killed for his power and assets. However the SSP said that the SIT has gathered various details in the case which cannot be revealed soon due to the ongoing investigation. The police have also been questioning to identify those involved in the murder. The police are also in touch with various agencies of various states regarding the case. The police are investigating from all angles. Both absconding accused will be nabbed soon, he added.
