Dehradun police’s night checking operations led to the arrest of four individuals involved in stealing equipment from mobile phone towers. The suspects, also wanted in several theft and robbery cases in Saharanpur, Muzaffarnagar, Meerut, Haryana and Delhi, were apprehended by a team from Premnagar police station in the wee hours of Sunday, the Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said. He informed that the police got a complaint at Premnagar police station in October last year regarding the theft of RRU 4G equipment from a mobile tower. Based on the complaint, the police registered an FIR but no accused was arrested in the case so far. During routine night checks on Sunday, the police stopped a white Aura taxi (UP14QT1127) near Nanda Chowki, Premnagar. The vehicle’s occupants, identified as Suraj (24) and Tarun Chaudhary (24), both residents of Modinagar, Ghaziabad, were found with tools commonly used for dismantling equipment. Upon interrogation, the two reportedly admitted to stealing mobile tower equipment and disclosed the whereabouts of their accomplices near Vishrantipul. Singh said that the police apprehended the other two suspects, Mohit (21) and Raja Kashyap (21), also from Modinagar, at the specified location. The duo was found with stolen RRU equipment and other parts concealed in plastic bags. The accused admitted to stealing the items from mobile towers in Premnagar, Cantonment and Sahaspur areas.

The SSP said that the further questioning revealed that the gang sold the stolen equipment to scrap dealers in Delhi for profit. The recovered items included multiple RRUs, modules, an Amaron battery, and dismantling tools. Singh informed that investigations are ongoing to trace other stolen items and verify similar thefts committed by the gang in neighboring states.
