Police arrest last wanted accused in Reliance Jewellery showroom robbery case

The police apprehended Rahul alias Chaunda, the last wanted accused in the Reliance Jewellery Showroom robbery case from Kurukshetra, Haryana on Tuesday. The Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said that Rahul, who carried a reward of Rs two lakh on his head, had been on the run since the incident.

The Uttarakhand director general of police had announced Rs one lakh reward for his arrest and the Bihar police had also announced Rs one lakh for his capture. He informed that Rahul has been allegedly involved in multiple cases of robbery and dacoity across several states. Along with his accomplices, he reportedly executed several high-profile crimes, making him a wanted criminal for multiple state police forces, Singh said.

Rahul is a resident of Shakarpur in Begusarai district, Bihar and was residing in Vishwas Colony of Kurukshetra in Haryana, at the time of his arrest, as per SSP. He stated that 13 individuals has been arrested in the Reliance Jewellery Showroom robbery case so far, with Rahul reportedly being the last wanted accused. “His capture followed a months-long search, during which he evaded authorities by frequently changing locations.

This arrest is expected to aid in the investigation of similar crimes across different states and brings the robbery case closer to a resolution,” Singh added. A gang looted jewellery worth about Rs 20 crore from the Reliance Jewellery store in Dehradun on November 9, 2023. The police have arrested various suspects in the case since then but are yet to recover the loot.
