Police arrest man accused in Rs 1.73 crore land fraud

Dehradun police on Sunday arrested an absconding accused involved in land fraud amounting to Rs 1.73 crore from East Canal Road. The police informed that on January 6, the special task force (STF) had registered a case in Dalanwala police station against some men for forging documents of lands belonging to Securities and Exchange Bank of India (SEBI) at various locations- Bhauwala, Dhorankhas Tarla, Amwala, Badowala and Mussoorie.
All the accused allegedly hatched a criminal conspiracy and duped several persons of money in lieu of selling the said lands as per the STF report. They have allegedly duped many of Rs 1.73 crore in total in the name of selling the lands, said the police. Considering the sensitivity of the matter, the senior superintendent of police Daleep Singh Kunwar formed teams to investigate the matter. The police had arrested six accused for the scam but 40-year-old Jeetendra alias Johny was on the run for months.They said that the court had also issued non-bailable warrants against the accused. The authorities also attached the property of the absconding accused under section 83 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) as per the court’s order.
The police said that the accused Jeetendra, who was living in the Sahastradhara Road area but belongs to Meerut, Uttar Pradesh was nabbed by the police on Sunday from EC Road near SK Memorial building on a tip off from an informer. The police said that Jeetendra is a vicious criminal who has several charges registered against him besides fraud including robbery, attempt to murder and murder. He will be presented in the court soon, said the police.
