Police arrest man posing as CISF jawan to dupe Pauri residents

The Pauri district police arrested accused Parvez who committed fraud of more than Rs four lakh while posing as a CISF jawan on Facebook for selling furniture and other items from Haryana on Thursday.The arrested accused will be produced in the court. The accused has said that two of his relatives- Amzad Khan and Nazim are also involved in the fraud case.
According to the police, Leelawati Devi, resident of Paithani in Pauri district had lodged a first information report in Paithani police station in October. She had stated in the report that her husband Harivansh Singh Negi has seen an advertisement about furniture for sale on Facebook during September in which a mobile number was also given. Since they needed the furniture, Negi talked on the phone number provided. The person on the line said that his name was Sumit Kumar and that he was working in CISF at Delhi. The man claimed that he had been transferred to Andman and Nicobar and so wanted to sell all his furniture, air conditioner and television for a total of Rs five lakh. Negi agreed to purchase the items and transferred Rs 4,31,237 in the account as directed but after that the person neither responded to phone calls nor provided the furniture and other items.
The district senior superintendent of police Shweta Choubey instructed the police to form a team and solve the case. Since the accused was frequently changing his location, the SSP announced Rs 5,000 reward for his arrest. Based on tips from informers and electronic surveillance, the police arrested the accused Parvez from Haryana. The arrested accused told the police during questioning that he had carried out the fraud using an alias and fake ID on social media.
