Police arrest six accused with counterfeit currency in Haridwar and Dehradun

Haridwar police arrested six accused with counterfeit currency notes late on Wednesday. The accused reportedly learned to make counterfeit notes through YouTube. The officials said that four accused were initially arrested when the police stopped two motorcycles in Ranipur area and the four men were found in possession of 44 fake notes of Rs 500 denomination.
During interrogation, the suspects provided information leading to the arrest of two more accomplices in Dehradun, where counterfeit notes amounting to Rs two lakh were found. The four suspects were identified as Saurabh, Nikhil, Anantbir and Neeraj- all from Uttar Pradesh. It was revealed during interrogation that these individuals learned counterfeit currency production from YouTube tutorials. These accused also revealed the name of two other suspects, Mohit and Vishal, who operated from rented rooms in Suddhowala, Dehradun, as per the officials. They informed that the police team was dispatched to Dehradun, leading to Mohit’s arrest in the Premnagar area. Mohit was found with 200 fake notes of Rs 500 denomination. The police also seized a laptop, a printer, two blade cutters and other materials used for printing counterfeit notes from his room.
Vishal was subsequently arrested from the Patelnagar area in Dehradun. He allegedly had 207 counterfeit notes of Rs 500 denomination. The police also confiscated a laptop, a printer and other equipment used for counterfeit note production from his residence. The officials said that the accused revealed during interrogation that they made counterfeit notes by scanning real Rs 500 notes and printing its replicas. Then they used to circulate fake currency in busy and crowded areas and among elderly shopkeepers, where the suspects would exchange fake notes for real change, thus making a profit.
