He was planning to meet wedding expenses by selling Charas

The police arrested a college student of Dehradun who was planning to sell Charas worth about Rs 10 lakh in Kanwad Yatra to meet his wedding expenses, said the senior superintendent of police Daleep Singh Kunwar. He said that the accused is a 23-year-old student named Baldev Singh who hails from Joshimath in Chamoli district and was currently studying at DBS PG College in Dehradun. He said that the police received information that a considerable amount of Charas is being brought from Joshimath to Dehradun by some smugglers to sell it in Kanwad Yatra. He said that after the Raipur police station received this information, a team started manual policing as the drug peddlers and smugglers reportedly contacted via Whatsapp calls which are usually difficult to trace.

The police team started an investigation and found out the investigations where drugs are usually supplied via smugglers and peddlers. The SSP said that the police finally nabbed the accused Baldev Singh from Ring Road in the Raipur area late on Monday night with two kilogrammes of Charas worth nearly Rs 10 lakh. Kunwar said, “He revealed in the preliminary inquiry that he recently got engaged but he did not have enough money to bear his own wedding expenses due to which, he hatched a plan to sell drugs in Kanwad Yatra along with his friend in Chamoli. They have bought Charas in small quantities from various parts of the Chamoli district. After he collected about two kilogrammes of Charas, he brought it to his rented room in Saraswati Vihar three days ago. He was supposed to give this Charas to his friend in Rishikesh to sell it further in Kanwad Yatra.”

The SSP said that the accused has also revealed some important information regarding drug smuggling and police will act on it accordingly. “The accused has also admitted to selling Charas to students of Graphic Era University. The police are verifying all of his claims,” he added.
