Police arrest three men with 140 kgs ganja in Almora

The police arrested three men in two separate incidents for possessing 140 kilogrammes of ganja in Almora district on Tuesday. This is possibly the biggest drug haul of the year seized by the police in Uttarakhand, the Almora senior superintendent of police Devendra Pincha said. He told The Pioneer that the first incident occurred when the SOG and police intercepted a pickup truck and a Baleno car on the Kedar Syalde road near Sated village in Deghat area. “The vehicles were found to be carrying a total of 116 kilogrammes of ganja. The police seized the vehicles and took both drivers Sundar Singh and Khem Singh into custody. The accused revealed during questioning that they were transporting the ganja from Seem village to Ramnagar in Nainital district to sell it at a higher price. They also revealed that one of their accomplices, Kuldeep, had escaped in another car,” he said. The SSP stated that in the second incident, the Bhataroujkhan police team intercepted an Alto car without a number plate on the Marchula road in the Mohan area. The driver, Nikku, was reportedly found to be carrying over 24 kilogrammes of ganja worth Rs six lakh. He was arrested on the spot, he said. “The total value of the seized ganja is Rs 35 lakh, weighing 140 kilogrammes. The police have also initiated an investigation into the properties of the accused and will take action under the Gangster Act. The main accused Kuldeep is absconding and will be nabbed soon,” the SSP said.
