Police have arrested two accused in a case in which a woman from Ghaziabad was allegedly raped for many days in Roorkee. The woman was initially reluctant to file a complaint against the accused in the case but she finally filed it on Saturday after she was provided with professional counselling, said the senior superintendent of police of Haridwar, Ajai Singh. Informing about the incident, he told The Pioneer that the victim reportedly arrived in Gangnahar area of Roorkee a few days ago from Ghaziabad with a man named Nadeem. “She told her husband that she is going for a job. After she arrived here, Nadeem introduced her to a man named Shakib who reportedly raped her in a room in the Gangnahar area as per the woman’s claims. Her injured body was found by people after which she was taken to the hospital,’ said Singh.

It is suspected that the woman initially arrived here for prostitution to earn quick money but later, she was being forced into it by culprits. He said that the victim was initially not ready to speak about the matter. She was very reluctant to file the complaint but after the police called her husband and provided her counselling, she filed the complaint on Saturday. He said that the police started the investigation and gathered crucial information through call detail record analysis and evidence. “We found during the investigation that the accused men were trying to force the victim into prostitution and other immoral activities on the basis of which, the police also booked the accused under the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act.

Other information is being gathered. If police find involvement of more people in this case, they will also be nabbed soon,” said the SSP. He said the superintendent of police (Rural) has been directed to complete the investigation of this case within 24 hours. Singh also clarified that some people claimed and spread rumours through social media that the woman arrived in Roorkee with Kanwadiyas which is completely false. “The case is not associated with Kanwadiyas in any way as per our investigation. People should refrain from sharing such misleading information without any proper information,” he added.
