The police arrested a man and a woman on charges of carrying out prostitution at a spa centre situated on Dehradun’s Chakrata Road on Thursday. The police also rescued three young women who were reportedly pushed into prostitution, said the senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh. He said that a surprise check was conducted by the anti-human trafficking unit (AHTU) late on Wednesday during which the police came to know about this crime being committed under the pretence of providing spa services. He said that the police arrested a man identified as Amir (24) and a female manager identified as Iram alias Aanchal (26) who used to convince or force women working in the spa to provide ‘extra service’ or ‘special service’ to customers for extra bucks. Both accused are residents of Dehradun while the owner of the spa Manoj Kumar who hails from Saharanpur is absconding, said Singh. It was revealed during the interrogation that Kumar has been allegedly luring and forcing women from other states to get into prostitution for a long time under the guise of his spa centre. He had appointed Iram to manage transactions between customers and the women. The SSP said that the police are looking for the absconding owner and will nab him soon.
