Police arrest two men for defrauding about 600 people in Doon

The Dehradun police arrested two gang members who have financially defrauded about 600 people in the district. The superintendent of police (City) Sarita Dobhal said that a woman from Saraswati Vihar named Zareen Khan registered a complaint on February 27 this year against the gang. As per the complaint, five people were reportedly scamming people by operating Sarvottam Agro Cooperative Society and Sarvottam Janashree Sanchay Nidhi Limited Chit Fund Company. It was revealed during the investigation that the gang cheated crores of rupees from the year 2014 to 2019 under the guise of a chit fund company. She said that the gang has defrauded about 600 people of at least Rs 10 crore in Dehradun. They used to lure people by promising them to double their money after a certain period of time due to which, many locals deposited money in the gang’s company. She said that the police have nabbed two accused identified as Rajendra Singh Bisht (62) and Mahesh Kumar (36) who are residents of Vasant Vihar and Nehru Colony respectively. The three accused named Irfan, DK Mishra and Pankaj Mishra are still absconding. Dobhal said that it was revealed during the investigation that the gang members have bought 60 bigha land in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh with the money obtained by scamming people. She said that the police called two accused Mahesh Kumar and Rajendra Singh who worked in the company. They were brought to the police station for questioning on Thursday and were later arrested at the spot during interrogation. They were presented before the court on Friday. Dobhal said that the police teams are searching for the remaining absconding accused.
