Based on a complaint filed by Ashok Kumar, brother of the deceased, Sahaspur police registered a case against 12 accused and 30 to 40 unidentified persons under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police said the accused include Razzaq, Aman, Yunus, Javed, Imtiyaz, Shahbaz, Sharafat Ali, Masoom, Adil, Shamoon, Salman and Intezar.

According to police, the dispute started over releasing water into agricultural fields. The two groups had reportedly been arguing over the issue for the past few days. The injured men were taken to Lehman Hospital by local villagers. In the hospital Vinod Kumar later died during treatment, while the other two injured persons are receiving medical care.

Security has also been increased in the area to maintain law and order,” Dobal said.

He also appealed to residents of Sahaspur to maintain peace and assured that strict legal action would be taken against all those involved in the case.
