Police check 500 medical stores in Haridwar

Taking action on complaints of continued abuse of pharmaceutical drugs, the Haridwar police conducted an inspection of more than 500 medical stores across the district late on Wednesday evening. During this action, the police checked the controlled drugs and licenses among other aspects in the medical stores. On finding irregularities, the police locked 85 medical stores. These include 41 medical stores in urban areas and 44 in rural areas. The report regarding these stores has been sent to the department concerned by the police which has also recommended action.
According to the police, the department has been receiving complaints consistently about pharmaceutical drugs being abused and medical stores being managed by persons lacking the necessary qualification. Haridwar senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh issued instructions to all police station in-charges to take action in this regard following which medical stores across the district were inspected on Wednesday.
The SSP said that confidential information related to the medical stores was being received by the police for some time. To check this information, surprise checking of medical stores was conducted at the police station level. The checks revealed deficiencies in many medical stores. Some medical store operators ran away after seeing the police coming to inspect their shops. Their reports are being sent to the drug inspector, he said.
