The police conducted a large-scale verification drive across Dehradun district on Sunday amid rain and conducted door to door verification of 2,375 people. The Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said that a thorough verification process was carried out for various individuals, including tenants, workers from other districts, street vendors and scrap dealers among others. The police conducted the verification drive along with the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) to ensure that tenants and individuals working in Dehradun from other districts were properly verified. During the operation, it was found that many landlords had failed to comply with the mandatory tenant verification process despite repeated warnings by the police. Considering this, the police issued challans to 232 landlords for not verifying their tenants and imposed a hefty fine of Rs 23.2 lakh. Besides this, the police also imposed fines on 75 people, amounting to Rs 26,250 for various violations under the Police Act.
Singh said that the police also questioned 154 suspicious individuals who were unable to produce valid identification documents at the time. These individuals were taken to the respective police stations or outposts for further interrogation. Singh said that this verification campaign is part of an ongoing effort to maintain law and order in the district and it will continue in the future as well. He also urged all landlords and employers to comply with verification requirements to avoid legal consequences and contribute to a safer community.
