A police constable posted in the Almora police line in Almora district died under suspicious circumstances after getting shot from his service firearm on Sunday. The officials informed that constable Sundar Shah, a native of Bageshwar district, was posted in the police line in Almora. He took charge from another police personnel on Sunday morning who was posted on night duty. Soon after he took the charge, policemen heard a gunshot from the spot. They reached there and found him lying on the ground in an unconscious state.
The police personnel took him to the government hospital where the doctors declared him dead, as per the officials. The Almora senior superintendent of police Devendra Pincha and other senior police officials also reached the spot along with the forensic team. The SSP said that the forensic team has collected evidence from the spot and the body was sent for post mortem. He also added that whether the constable shot himself accidentally or intentionally is a matter of investigation. The police have started the investigation and will be able to clarify more after getting post mortem and forensic test reports, he added.
