To mitigate the traffic issues being caused by improperly parked vehicles during the ongoing Char Dham Yatra and tourist season, the police have acted against a number of wrongly parked vehicles in the hill station. In addition to the ongoing pilgrimage, the advent of the weekend brings about a considerable increase in the traffic to Mussoorie. The congestion is worsened by improperly parked vehicles. Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh had directed the police officers in Mussoorie to take necessary steps to counter this problem. The police undertook a campaign in Mussoorie on Friday and Saturday. According to the police, during the two-day campaign a total of 22 four-wheelers found to be improperly parked were towed away. Similarly, 24 two-wheelers were also seized for being improperly parked on Spring Road, Clock Tower, Picture Palace, Bada Mod, Kempty Road, Mullinger Road, Picture Palace bus stand road and on other city roads. Further, challans were issued for 138 vehicles found parked in no-parking zones with a fine of Rs 44,000. The police further informed that drones were also used to issue challans to 40 vehicles found parked in no-parking zones.
It is pertinent to mention here that Mussoorie is among the favourite destinations of people in the NCR, Punjab and Haryana regions, apart from locals of nearby areas, who throng to the hill station to seek relief from the hot and dry conditions in the plains. The rush of tourists is known to cause severe traffic congestion and other public inconvenience in Mussoorie and even some parts of Dehradun.
