Dehradun police have arrested 13 accused, including nine warrant absconders, three vehicle thieves and one drug trafficker on Thursday under ‘Operation Prahar’. Notably, the director general of police, Uttarakhand, Deepam Seth had launched ‘Operation Prahar’ under the direction of the chief minister, Pushkar Singh Dhami in the aftermath of the death of the retired brigadier Mukesh Joshi during gun chase involving two groups in Rajpur.
The police have also recovered three stolen two-wheelers and smack from the accused. In a separate action, another drug trafficker was arrested from Vikasnagar area with narcotics
Police said that around 70 people found drinking alcohol in public were detained and action was taken against them, too. For traffic violations, 179 drivers were fined, while 170 were issued court challans and 75 vehicles were impounded. In addition, 13 people were arrested for drunk driving and their vehicles were also seized.
The police also carried out verification drives in PGs, hostels, and rented accommodations.
Action was taken against 71 property owners for not verifying tenants, and a fine of over Rs seven lakh was imposed. During the drive, one suspicious person with a criminal background was taken into custody in Selaqui area. Police said such checking drives will continue to control crime and maintain law and order in the city.
