The police destroyed the seized modified silencers removed from motorcycles in Dehradun district on Thursday. The police had undertaken a campaign especially against modified silencers being used on Enfield motorcycles. These modified silencers were not only generating noise pollution but a feature also enabled the rider to make the noise of crackers using the silencer causing considerable disturbance and public nuisance. During its campaign against this practice in the district, the police took action against 461 riders and seized 57 motorcycles. The police also removed modified silencers from 185 motorcycles and deposited these at the traffic office. These were destroyed with a road roller being driven over them on the road outside the traffic office on Thursday.
The Dehradun superintendent of police (Traffic) has appealed to two-wheeler owners to use only those silencers which are provided by the manufacturing company. If anyone is found riding a motorcycle with modified silencer in the future, action will be taken against the rider, the mechanic responsible for modification and the shop selling the said spare parts under relevant sections of Indian Penal Code.
