Uttarakhand Police has expanded the use of the e-Writ Portal across the State as per the high court order to make the judicial process more transparent and efficient. This initiative facilitates police personnel in their duties, allowing them to file affidavits directly with the high court online, which eliminates the need for time-consuming visits. Initially, the service was rolled out in phases, beginning in Dehradun and then expanding to Haridwar. Now, the portal is available to police in every district, simplifying the submission process for crucial case documents, as per the officials. They informed that since its implementation, the e-Writ Portal has demonstrated remarkable efficiency and cost savings. From July 2023 to September 2024, police personnel filed approximately 1,257 affidavits through this digital system. The shift to an online filing process has reportedly saved the department around Rs 21.36 in travel and daily allowances, as officers no longer need to make lengthy trips to the court. Previously, investigators required up to three days to complete the affidavit filing process, causing disruptions in their regular duties. Now, this process can be handled digitally, allowing officers to allocate more time to their ongoing responsibilities. The department has also saved over Rs 1.13 crore in wage expenses due to the reduced time commitment, the officials said. They said that the e-Writ portal has brought multiple benefits to police personnel, including transparency, efficiency and a more seamless workflow. Officers are able to file their documents directly from their stations, eliminating travel requirements and reducing paperwork. They informed that police officers across the State are receiving training and guidance to ensure smooth adoption of this new system.
