The police externed advocate and RTI activist Vikesh Negi from Dehradun district on Thursday under the Goonda Act for his alleged involvement in land encroachments, fraud and other criminal activities. The officials claimed that Negi is a notorious criminal involved in land encroachments, fraud and other illicit activities and was externed on the order of Dehradun district magistrate Sonika for six months. They stated that Negi has a long history of criminal activities and has been allegedly exploiting the RTI Act and legal advocacy as a cover for his actions like land encroachment, fraud and issuing death threats. His criminal record includes multiple cases registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Under the supervision of Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh, all station heads were directed to take stringent action against habitual offenders. Acting on these orders, Nehru Colony police station prepared a comprehensive report under the Goonda Act against Negi and upon reviewing it, the DM ordered externment of Negi for six months. The officials said that the police escorted Negi beyond the district boundary into Tehri district to the accompaniment of a Dhol, making a clear announcement of his expulsion. Negi was sternly warned not to re-enter Dehradun district during this period, the officials added. It is pertinent to mention here that the police had also registered another case against Negi on Monday for allegedly posting a threat of suicide on Facebook, alleging that the Uttarakhand police, police of Nehru Colony police station and other public servants were responsible for his plight in a land fraud case. Calling it an attempt to hinder and coerce public servants in the performance of their duties, the police registered a case under section 224 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the Nehru Colony police station.
