Police felicitate six men under Good Samaritan scheme

The Uttarakhand Police on Tuesday awarded Rs 15,000 each to six citizens who helped victims and police during serious road accidents under the Good Samaritan scheme in their respective areas. The additional director general of police (Law and Order) V Murugesan felicitated six men at Police headquarters in Dehradun belonging to three districts including Rohit Mamgain from Kaulagarh in Dehradun, Mohan Negi and Naveen Bhandari from Tapovan in Tehri and residents of Danya in Almora- Basant Ballabh Joshi and Suresh Joshi.

The officials stated that Mamgain on March 7, 2023 safely took out an injured driver trapped inside a truck that overturned on a road near Badowala in Dehradun and sent him to hospital on time through an ambulance and immediately informed the police too. His quick help saved the life of the driver. The officials said that Mohan Negi and Naveen Bhandari from Tehri helped the police in rescuing three people who sustained serious injuries after their vehicle fell into a 100-metre deep gorge near Muni Ki Reti on October 13, 2022. 

Besides this, Almora residents Basant Ballabh Joshi and Suresh Joshi rescued a man belonging to Champawat on January 26, 2023 whose vehicle fell into a deep gorge near Danya village in Almora that caused him serious injuries. Timely rescue by both men saved his life, said the officials. Murugesan said that Uttarakhand police implemented the Good Samaritans scheme by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) last year in August to reward people for helping road accident victims. He said that the scheme has motivated many to help people during accidents and the police will continue to felicitate such courageous people.
