Police find body of alleged killer of SI’s daughter

The police on Friday found the body of the man from Chilla barrage in Rishikesh, who had committed suicide after allegedly killing a police sub-inspector’s daughter on May 5. The man identified as Shailendra Bhatt had allegedly killed the victim Arti Dabral whose body was found in the Chidderwala area on May 6 in the morning with a deep wound in the neck, the Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said. He informed that Dabral lived in Rishikesh with her family and was a private school teacher. Bhatt belonged to Tehri and was living in Rishikesh with his sister for about the past seven years to prepare for competitive government recruitment examinations. He had known the victim for the past several years as per his sister. The victim’s family revealed to the police during the inquiry that Dabral had left home around 6 PM on May 4 stating she was going to a friend’s birthday party. The accused had also left his house around 5 PM. When he did not return home till late at night, his sister registered a missing person complaint at Rishikesh police station. Bhatt’s friend later informed his sister that he had allegedly committed suicide by jumping into the Chilla canal. The SSP said that the divers of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) along with the Water Police were consistently searching for the accused’s body. They finally recovered the body on Friday morning. The police called the family of the accused to identify the body and will hand over the body after completing all the procedures. Singh said, “The police have thoroughly investigated all aspects related to the incident and found no evidence so far that suggests involvement of a third person in the death of Dabral and Bhatt.” He said that the police are yet to ascertain why the man exactly killed the woman.
