The police have identified eight persons who allegedly clicked photographs with the signage boards installed in Rudraprayag and posted them on social media purportedly with the intention of disturbing harmony, law and order, the superintendent of police of Rudraprayag, Akshay Konde said. Some sign boards announcing a restriction on the entry of non-Hindus and Rohingya Muslims were put up in various areas of Rudraprayag about 10 days ago. This elicited objection in some sections of society when pictures of these boards went viral on social media during the past couple of days. The SP said that eight sign boards were put up in four to five locations about two weeks ago. “The police talked to the community liaison groups (CLGs) regarding the issue. The villagers presented their concern regarding the entry of unknown people like hawkers, in the villages, who can potentially harm their family, mainly women and children, when men are not home during the Char Dham Yatra period. We assured them that the police will ensure no unverified person enters the villages. Besides this, we informed them that the entry of illegal immigrants is already against the law. The citizens cannot ban the entry of any particular community either. They understood us and removed those boards,” Konde said. He also informed that the police have identified eight persons who allegedly clicked photographs with the sign boards installed in Rudraprayag district and posted them on social media with disinformation with the intention to disturb harmony, law and order. The investigation is ongoing and further action will be taken accordingly, he said.
