The director general of police Ashok Kumar has issued orders to police in-charges to conduct monthly visits to homes of senior citizens and contact them through telephone twice a month as a measure for their safety and security. He said that the senior citizens must also be informed about the Uttarakhand Police App and emergency button (SOS) during the tour. They will also be trained to use the emergency button available in the police app.
A monthly review will also be conducted at the headquarters level for the safety of senior citizens. The police will also run a campaign to appeal to the people to install CCTV cameras around the houses with the help of Mohalla Committees. The DGP stated this in a review meeting on Tuesday at the Police Headquarters in view of the security of the senior citizens living alone in the State. He said that the police must encourage people and social workers of respective areas to help senior citizens living nearby as a measure to ensure their safety. Kumar said that police have a record of 1,067 senior citizens living in the urban areas and 2,398 senior citizens are registered in the Uttarakhand Police App. He asked the district in-charges to identify all senior citizens in their respective areas to update this data.
DGP said that strict action will be taken against the officials neglecting the instructions regarding the safety of senior citizens.
