Police inspects 1,047 Doon eateries for hygiene and safety ahead of Deepawali

Police conducted inspections of 1,047 eateries in Dehradun to check cleanliness and adulteration ahead of Deepawali. During the operation, 135 eateries were found to have poor sanitation, resulting in penalties under the Police Act. Besides this, 127 persons who had not completed the required verification process were brought to the police station for further action, the Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said. He informed that the campaign aimed at ensuring the safety and hygiene standards of food establishments across the city, including urban and rural areas.
The inspections targeted hotels, dhabas, restaurants, food stalls and food vans, where the quality of food and beverages, as well as cleanliness, was thoroughly checked. He had instructed all subordinate officers to check not only the food quality but also the verification of employees and the functioning of CCTV cameras installed at these establishments for security purposes. Establishments with high standards of cleanliness and safety were also honoured with flower bouquets by the police personnel to encourage compliance, SSP said. Besides this, other owners were also urged to improve their hygiene and install security cameras. The police also raised awareness about the significance of maintaining cleanliness and having functional CCTV systems to ensure the safety of customers, he added.
