The Anti Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of Dehradun police began a campaign to conduct surprise inspections of addiction rehabilitation centres here on Saturday. The ANTF team issued challans to two rehabilitation centres on finding irregularities at the facilities.
According to the police, the ANTF conducted surprise checks in rehabilitation centres in Vasant Vihar and Patelnagar police station areas on the direction of the Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh. During the inspection, the officials directed the rehabilitation centres’ operators to ensure necessary arrangements according to the guidelines issued by the government for such centres. The police officials also counselled those admitted in the rehabilitation centres and talked to them about the ill-effects of substance abuse. They also asked them about the problems they were facing. The ANTF team found some irregularities in two of the rehabilitation centres which were checked. The police issued challans of Rs 10,000 each under the Police Act to Nai Subah and Jeevan Sanjeevani rehabilitation centres.
It is pertinent to mention here there have been frequent complaints of addiction rehabilitation centres in the provisional State capital not functioning properly as per the government’s guidelines. The rise in substance abuse has also led to a rise in rehabilitation centres but some of these are known to not function properly.
