The police teams are investigating the fraud cases in which the former private secretary to chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, Prakash Chand Upadhyay and others are the main accused. The police may arrest some culprits soon, said the Dehradun senior superintendent of police Daleep Singh Kunwar. He said that it is a serious matter which is being investigated thoroughly and the police will take action as per the evidence gathered in the case.
The police registered a case over a week ago against Upadhyay and six others for allegedly duping a resident of Patiala in Punjab, Sanjeev Kumar of over Rs three crore in the name of providing him government tenders and other associated works. According to the police, the complainant claimed that when Upadhyay was asked to return the money after Kumar did not get the tenders, he gave a check of Rs 30 lakh which bounced. Apart from Upadhyay, the six other accused have been identified as Saurabh Sharma and his wife Nandini, Mahesh Maharia, Raunak Maharia, Shahrukh Khan and Amit Lamba. The police registered a case against them under sections 420 (cheating), 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 120 (B) (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code, as per the police.
Meanwhile, another cheating case came to light on Wednesday in which Upadhyay along with four people allegedly duped another businessman from Patiala who was an acquaintance of the first complainant. The first complainant introduced him to Upadhyay and his accomplices last year and they purportedly promised to provide tenders for projects run by the State government here. The complainant has claimed to have paid them about Rs three crore, as per the police. The SSP said that another case has been registered against Upadhyay and his four accomplices. “There is nothing much I can share right now since it is an ongoing investigation. The police teams are diligently working on both cases and nobody will be spared and action will be taken against culprits,” he added.
