Police nab absconding driver in bus crash that left 2 dead, 14 injured

Police nabbed the absconding driver Khalid on Tuesday who was driving the bus at the time of the accident in which a man and a school student died and 14 people sustained injuries near Shimla Bypass in Dehradun on Monday.

The bus, travelling from Vikasnagar to Dehradun, had collided with a loader vehicle near Singhniwala and overturned. The accident had resulted in injuries to six minors, seven men and one woman, with one of them discharged after receiving primary treatment and the rest continuing to receive care at the hospital. Following the incident, the police registered a case under sections 281, 106, 125, and 324(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and formed a team to investigate the case, Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said.

The police team gathered information about the absconding driver and investigated the owner of the bus, Suleman, a resident of Buddhi village in the Patelnagar area, to collect further details. “On Tuesday, the driver, identified as Khalid, a resident of Sherpur in Sahaspur, was taken into custody by the police near the Hasanpur underpass. Further legal proceedings against the driver are underway,” he said.
