Police nab accused, recover weapon used in Raipur firing

The Raipur police arrested on Monday a wanted accused in connection with the firing incident that took place in the Raipur area earlier this month. The arrested accused was identified as Om Prakash alias Ompal alias Kapil. Police also recovered a .315 bore country-made pistol allegedly used in the crime. Three other accused involved in the case had already been arrested and sent to jail.

The incident occurred on the night of July 3 when complainant Divakar Khanduri was standing outside a liquor shop on Ring Road with his friends Naveen Rana and Rohan Kumar. According to the police, three to four men arrived and opened fire due to an old rivalry. One bullet hit Rana on the shoulder, while another struck a passer-by, Kamendra Sharma, in the leg. 

A case had been registered at Raipur police station and special police teams were formed on the directions of the senior superintendent of police (SSP), Dehradun, Pramendra Dobal to arrest all those involved.  During the investigation, police identified Prakash as one of the accused. As he remained on the run, the SSP announced Rs 15,000 as reward for his arrest. Following continuous surveillance and raids, police finally arrested him and recovered the weapon used in the firing. Further investigation is underway, police added.
