Police nab four men circulating fake notes

Delhi police constable among the accused who used counterfeit notes on Yatra route

The Tehri district police team arrested four accused members of an inter-state gang, including a Delhi police constable, who had circulated a large number of counterfeit currency notes on Char Dham Yatra routes on Wednesday night. 

The Devprayag police team on receiving the information that some people were making purchases with counterfeit notes went into action swiftly and intensified the routine checking of the vehicles in the Devprayag area of Tehri district. The police succeeded in nabbing four persons in a Wagon-R car and when searched four fake notes of Rs 200 denomination were recovered from them resulting in their arrest. A case was registered under sections 489 A,B,C of the IPC.

When interrogated the accused told the police the counterfeit notes were printed in Gurugram and they used to circulate such notes by purchasing small items in different cities. Considering the large number of people who arrive in Uttarakhand for the Char Dham Yatra which has just started, they had gone till Rudraprayag and used the counterfeit notes to purchase various items on the way back.  They also revealed that they had a plan to take a large consignment of fake notes and circulate them on the Char Dham Yatra route. It also came to light during interrogation that one of the accused, Sachin (35) is posted as a constable in the Delhi police.

The other accused have been identified as Hitesh (22), Deepak Kumar (35) and Mohit (29)- all residents of Haryana.
