Police nab gang members with 79 kilogrammes of ganja

The police arrested Kifayatullah alias Amir (24) who supplied at least 68 kilogrammes of ganja to his six gang members in Haridwar to smuggle to self proclaimed Babas and youngsters in Rishikesh, Haridwar and nearby areas. The police arrested the gang members late on Tuesday with 68 kilogrammes of ganja and arrested their supplier Amir from Mothrowala Road and recovered 10 kilogrammes of ganja late on Wednesday, said the Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh. He said that the police got the information that Amir delivered about 10 kilogrammes of ganja to a man near Rispana bridge late on Wednesday.

The police arrested him soon after. The SSP informed that Amir who belongs to Uttar Pradesh used the flag and board of Bharatiya Kisan Union on the car he used to smuggle the contraband. Amir revealed during interrogation that he smuggled 10 kilograms of ganja to a man named Saurav. The police started searching for the said man and finally named him on Thursday, said SSP. He said that all these accused usually sell these drugs in small packets to youngsters and beggars.

The gang members arrested late on Tuesday were Deepak Kumar (34) and his wife Pooja Devi (32), Sunil Arya (28), Istkar (19) and Riyaz (19). They have confessed that they sell ganja 

at the rate of Rs 25,000 to Rs 30,000 at places like Har Ki Paidi, Rishikesh, Muni Ki Reti and Raiwala besides other nearby places. The police have recovered 79 kilogrammes of ganja worth about Rs 25 lakh in the past three days. He said that police are interrogating the accused for how long they have been smuggling drugs here. They are investigating to know whether there are more smugglers and peddlers active across the district and nearby places.
