Accused shot SI during an encounter in Mussoorie
A sub inspector Mithun Kumar was shot in Mussoorie late on Saturday when the police were searching for an accused who had allegedly shot the woman who was found unconscious near Badasi Bridge on Thano Road in Dehradun on January 13. The accused turned out to be the woman’s husband Subham (27) who had also allegedly killed his father in Haryana’s Sonipat in September last year, the Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said. He said that it was revealed during the investigation that the accused was in debt of about Rs 50 lakh and he killed his father after he refused to give him any money. He allegedly killed his father to get his property and his wife was aware of it. They both fled Sonipat and rented a room in Haridwar’s Chidderwala. After they got information that the Haryana police will come to his wife’s maternal home there, they booked a hotel in Muni Ki Reti from December 23 to January 14.
The SSP said that according to the accused, his wife knew about his father’s murder so he brought her to Jolly Grant on a scooty where he had already parked his car. He took her to Badasi Bridge on Thano Road, shot her in the head and pushed her off the bridge. He returned to the hotel and went to Mussoorie on January 15 and stayed there in a home stay. Singh said that the police came to know about his stay in Mussoorie during the investigation and started checking several hotels and home stays on Saturday. When the police reached Sakshi Home Stay and found the name Shubham in the register, they went to check but he shot at the police and a bullet hit an SI in the stomach and Shubham escaped. He said that the police hospitalised the SI in a private hospital where he is reported to be out of danger but still under treatment till late on Sunday evening.
The SSP said that the police finally caught the accused during checking near Kuthal Gate. He fired at the police team and tried to escape towards the forest but the police fired back and a bullet hit the accused’s leg. He was hospitalised in a private hospital where heavy police force was deployed for security purposes. Singh said that it has been revealed in the preliminary interrogation that Shubham bought two country-made pistols from a man via Instagram. He also revealed that he shot his father in September and dumped his body in a forest that lies between Muzaffarnagar and Haridwar. He said that the police will resume the interrogation after the accused is discharged from the hospital.
Singh stated that chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also inquired about the health of the injured SI and stated that he should be provided the best medical treatment. He also instructed that appropriate action should be taken against the culprit responsible for the incident, the SSP added.
