Governor lieutenant general (retd) Gurmit Singh said that considering the changing scenario, the police needs to further strengthen its intelligence system. With criminals adopting new ways to commit crimes, the police will have to prepare itself and remain one step ahead of such elements. As cyber crime is a major challenge in modern policing, the police force needs capacity building in cyber monitoring. The governor was speaking as the chief guest at the conclusion of the 49th All India Police Science Congress here on Sunday.
“The work of the police is challenging but with their skill and intelligence, the police should also attempt to remove the misconceptions in the public about them. It is also important that the people are aware of the good works,” said Singh. He said that the participation of women is important for making India a developed nation. Issues related to women and girls are very sensitive. Ensuring a safe environment for them will be a big achievement and effective steps should also be taken to achieve this. Appreciating the work of Uttarakhand police, he said that the police in this state have to face various types of challenges.
Bureau of Police Research and Development director general Balaji Srivastav informed in brief about the deliberations held during the two-day programme. The Uttarakhand director general of police Ashok Kumar proposed the vote of thanks.
