Police on alert, to act strictly against disruptive actions

The Uttarakhand police are on an alert in view of the reaction of some segments opposing the Agnipath scheme of the Central government. The director general of police Ashok Kumar chaired a video conference with range and district in-charge officers on Friday and issued necessary instructions to maintain law and order. The DGP directed all the district in-charge officers to remain alert. He said that talks should be held with coaching centre operators and protesting youth and that the police should ensure that the law and peace are not affected under any circumstances. The environment in the State will not be allowed to deteriorate under any circumstances, he stressed. The DGP directed that strict legal action should be taken against any person indulging in unconstitutional manner of protest and affecting the peace and law. It was decided in the meeting that establishing coordination with the district magistrates, sector magistrates will be deputed and necessary police arrangements will be made on time. The reaction being seen in other States will be monitored and steps should be taken to ensure that Uttarakhand is not affected. Further, police/ Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) should be deployed with riot control gear as required in district headquarters, important institutions, national highway, railway tracks, railway stations, bus stations, bazaars and crowded places among other important locations. A work plan should be prepared in advance and used when needed for facilitating the smooth flow of traffic. Officers in-charge of the districts should maintain alertness, ensure action as the rules in even small incidents and conduct photography and videography of programmes. The social media should also be monitored through the social media monitoring cells, social media promotion cell and cyber cell at the district level. False news should be refuted immediately and legal action should be taken as per the rules against the persons responsible. Inspector general (Intelligence and Security) AP Anshuman, DIG of Garhwal range Karan Singh Naganyal, DIG (P and M) Senthil Avoodai Krishna Raj S, DIG (Law and Order) P Renuka Devi and other police officers were also present in the meeting.
