Police penalise 1,365 individuals for drinking in public places in Doon

Acting against the continuing issue of people drinking in public places in Dehradun, the police have penalised 1,365 individuals and collected fines amounting to more than Rs four lakh in the past one month. The Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said that this campaign was launched with the aim to curb public intoxication and related disturbances as many people indulge in arguments and fights that often escalate to something serious. All the police station in-charges have been directed to conduct regular inspection and take strict action against those found drinking in public places. The police team conducted inspections of parking lots, vacant grounds, eateries, forest areas and all possible places among others. The police also carried out regular patrolling and established checkpoints across various public spaces to identify and penalise individuals drinking in public or creating disturbances throughout October. The campaign led to the penalty of 1,365 individuals under the Police Act with fine collection of Rs 4.09 lakh, the SSP said. He informed that maximum individuals were penalised for drinking in public places under the Raipur police station. He said, “The police imposed a penalty on 785 individuals under the Police Act in the Raipur area alone in the past one month. Out of total Rs 4.09 lakh penalties collected in October, Rs 2.76 lakh was collected from violators in Raipur area. The Raipur police station turned out to be the most active unit in this campaign.” Singh said that this drive will continue in Dehradun to uphold public safety and maintain law and order in the city, especially at night.
