Police penalise 22 people for boozing in public places

Considering recent cases of vandalism and misconduct after consumption of alcohol at public places in Dehradun, the police conducted checks in Raipur area on the weekend. Officials said that several people drink alcohol in their vehicles parked at a parking lot or at isolated spaces and this practice has increased recently in the area. In response to increasing instances of public intoxication and disorderly conduct, the Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh issued strict directions to all police station heads to act strictly against those consuming alcohol and creating disturbances in public spaces or inside vehicles parked by the roadside.
Acting on the instruction, Raipur police launched a special checking campaign. On this Saturday and Sunday, the police conducted checks across various locations in Raipur area including Sahastradhara Road, Ladpur Road, Ring Road and Chuna Bhatta, among others. The police found that a total of 22 people were consuming liquor openly or in parked vehicles along the roadside. The police imposed a total penalty of Rs 6,200 on these people under the Police Act. They were also strictly warned against drinking in public places.
The SSP emphasised that such behaviour is unacceptable and police will continue to take strict action to maintain public order and safety across the district. He also urged the public to cooperate and report any such incidents to ensure a safe and peaceful environment in the area.
