With the authorities stepping up action against varied violations to check road accident and traffic issues following recurring fatal accidens in the State, the police penalised over 250 vehicles and seized 60 vehicles for operating without proper number plates in Dehradun district on Sunday.
The special drive was conducted under the directives of Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh to target violations across all urban and rural police station areas in the district. The operation involved intensive checks at various locations to identify and act against vehicles flouting registration norms.
The SSP said that vehicles with missing or defective number plates were a primary focus of the campaign. According to him, such violations not only compromise road safety but also hinder effective law enforcement. He also emphasised the importance of strict adherence to traffic laws and warned that similar drives will be conducted regularly to ensure compliance. He urged vehicle owners to verify the legality of their registration plates and avoid penalties by adhering to the rules.
After the recent road accident near ONGC intersection that claimed six lives, the police have been conducting various drives including late night checks on drunk driving to foster a safer and more disciplined driving environment in the district.
