A five-member committee, led by deputy inspector general (Crime, Law and Order) P Renuka Devi, is nearing completion of a detailed action plan aimed at curbing crimes against women and ensuring effective action against offenders. The Inspector General (Law and Order) Nilesh Anand Bharne told The Pioneer that the plan is expected to be implemented across the State starting January. The committee was established in August in response to a rise in crimes against women and was tasked with drafting a robust plan to address the issue. Bharne said that it has conducted an in-depth study covering various aspects, including the nature and frequency of such crimes, identification of sensitive areas and an evaluation of current reporting and investigation procedures. He said that the study also reviewed the status of case resolutions in courts, victim assistance services, police measures to prevent crimes and societal awareness levels regarding crimes against women. Besides this, the committee assessed the infrastructural and human resource needs across districts to strengthen the State’s ability to combat these issues effectively. He said that the DIG will soon submit a detailed report outlining findings and actionable recommendations. According to Bharne, the report will help enhance women’s safety, streamline police operations and improve the overall response to crimes against women in the State.
