Anticipating a huge increase in the number of tourists and pilgrims following the Char Dham Yatra that began on Friday, the police have prepared a special traffic plan for the weekend. Several routes will be diverted in Pauri, Tehri, Dehradun and Haridwar districts to ensure smooth operation of traffic, the deputy inspector general (Crime, Law and Order) and nodal officer of Traffic for Char Dham Yatra, P Renuka Devi said. She told The Pioneer that the traffic was normal on Char Dham routes on the first day of the pilgrimage but considering the huge number of tourists and pilgrims at the weekend, the officials concerned were asked to prepare a special traffic plan as per the requirement. The traffic police of the aforementioned four districts have prepared traffic plans and the respective in-charges of traffic police for Char Dham routes will ensure their proper execution. Devi said, “The police will also start raising awareness among people about the diversions and other changes to minimise their inconvenience during travelling. The traffic will return to normal on Monday. However, the police can make necessary changes in traffic plans as per the requirement in the respective district.” The police are also monitoring traffic and law and order situation on all routes using CCTV cameras and drones, she added.
