The Dehradun police have registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act against cricket coach Narendra Shah on the complaint of a person, who has alleged that Shah was having indecent conversations with his minor daughter over the phone. The police have also received two other similar complaints against the coach. The superintendent of police (City) Sarita Dobhal said on Tuesday that a man complained to the police on Monday that coach Narendra Shah allegedly had indecent talk with his minor daughter over the phone.
According to the complainant, Shah also verbally abused her and made derogatory remarks on her caste, said Dobhal. The SP said that considering the complaint, a case was registered against the coach in Nehru Colony police station under section 7/8 of POCSO Act, section 354 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and SC ST Act. Dobhal said that the police have also received two more applications with similar complaints and the police are working to verify the facts presented before them. Some audio clips recently went viral in social media platforms in which Narendra Shah, a cricket coach and former convener of junior women cricket, can be heard allegedly having indecent conversations with minor female cricket trainees.
Shah allegedly attempted suicide by consuming poison at his Nehru Colony home on March 24 after the audio clips went viral. He is currently hospitalised and is in a critical condition. The police said that they will interrogate him after his health gets stable. The head of Uttarakhand State Commission for Women Kusum Kandwal also directed the police on Sunday to probe the matter and take action against the coach accordingly.
