Dehradun police personnel from Doiwala station saved the life of a young man attempting to commit suicide by jumping in front of an oncoming train on Saturday. The officials informed that the police control room had received a distress call on Saturday informing them that a man was about to take his own life on the railway tracks in Harrawala. The information was relayed by the man’s friend, who alerted the authorities about his suicidal intentions. Acting quickly, the officer in charge of Doiwala police station immediately traced the man’s mobile location through surveillance. A police team from Harrawala outpost was dispatched to the scene without delay, as per the officials. As the police approached the railway tracks behind the GTM flats, the young man, identified as a 22-year-old Vibhor (name changed), panicked upon seeing the officers. The officials said that in a desperate attempt, he began running toward an oncoming train from the Jogiwala side. Sensing the urgency, the police constables Dinesh Rawat and Tarun Kumar pursued him on foot and managed to grab him and pull him off the tracks, just moments before the train could reach him, the officials informed. In a dramatic chase from Harrawala to Jogiowala, the policemen followed the young man until they could ensure his safety. They said that upon questioning, Vibhor revealed that he was under severe mental stress due to personal issues and had chosen suicide as a way out. Following the rescue, Vibhor’s friend was called to the scene, who provided information about his family living in the Nehru Colony area. The police then contacted the family and escorted Vibhor home, handing him over to his relatives. The Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh also appreciated the police personnel for their approach to the incident. He said that the prompt decision and quick response of the police officers were also highly praised by eyewitnesses and locals at the scene. Thanks to their quick thinking and brave actions, a life was saved and a young man was given another chance to seek help, he said. He also urged people to talk to someone about their issues or seek necessary help regrading their problems rather than resorting to severe measures like suicide that destroys many lives at once.
