Teams of local Police and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) rescued an army personnel on Tuesday night from a deep gorge he had fallen into. The sepoy Navin Singh, a resident of village Bhelara, Kotdwar was returning home when the motorcycle he was riding skidded off the road about seven kilometres ahead of Gumkhal towards Kotdwar on the Pauri-Kotdwar national highway.
After receiving the information of the accident, the policemen from Gumkhal and Dugadda police posts and a team of SDRF rushed to the spot and started the rescue operation at night. The rescue team also spotted two leopards lurking in the area which increased their concern for the safety of the men who had fallen in the gorge. The team spotted the person in a 300 meter deep gorge, rescued him and admitted him to the hospital.
