The Haridwar Police have assessed the properties of five accused, including the alleged mastermind Sanjeev Chaturvedi and his wife Ritu Chaturvedi, arrested for allegedly leaking the examination paper of the Lekhpal-Patwari examination conducted by the Uttarakhand Public Service Commission (UKPSC) on January 8. According to the property assessment report, the police have assessed property worth a total of Rs 75.60 lakh which includes Rs 41.5 lakh in cash and land worth Rs 34.12 lakh, said the senior superintendent of police of Haridwar Ajai Singh. He said that the action has been taken under section 14 (1) of the Gangster Act imposed on all five accused in Kankhal police station of the district. He said that the police have sent the assessment report of all the accused to Haridwar district magistrate Vinay Shankar Pandey and further action will be taken after his approval of attachment of assets.

The Uttarakhand Special Task Force had nabbed the five accused on January 12 including Sanjeev Chaturvedi who was working as UKPSC section officer and his wife Ritu for leaking the Patwari examination paper to at least 35 aspirants. The STF also registered a case against the accused in Kankhal police station under Section 409, 420, 467, 468, 471, 120B and 3/4 of the Uttar Pradesh / Uttarakhand Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Prevention Act 1998. Two days later, a separate Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed in Haridwar to probe the matter. The SIT has arrested over a dozen accused in the case so far and later imposed Gangster Act on eight of them. The SSP said that the police are currently taking action against five main accused under the Gangster Act. “The team is diligently investigating the matter. We will take stringent action against all criminals involved in the cheating scam and their illegally generated assets,” added Singh.
