The police arrested four smugglers with over 320 litres of country liquor in Haridwar and destroyed 7,900 litres of liquor wash from their hideouts through drone surveillance on Thursday. The Haridwar senior superintendent of police Pramendra Dobhal said that the police have been conducting regular surveillance in vulnerable and remote areas using drones to check illegal activities in view of the ensuing Lok Sabha elections.
During a similar checking procedure on Thursday through drone surveillance, the police found evidence of illegal liquor being prepared in Haridwar’s Pathri area. The police conducted raids and arrested three men- Deshraj, Shubham and Chhatar Singh along with 150 litres of country liquor. The police also destroyed about 7,000 litres of liquor wash used to make liquor from their many hideouts in the Pathri area. Besides this, the police also arrested the fourth accused Monu Kumar from the Laksar area with 170 litres of country liquor and recovered about 900 litres of liquor wash and kiln equipment from his hideout.
The police destroyed the raw material as per the protocols, Dobhal said. He stated that police have been conducting several campaigns to prevent the occurrence of illicit activities that can affect Lok Sabha elections in any way. The drone surveillance is helping the police to ensure people involved in illegal activities in remote and vulnerable areas do not get away from authorities to cause a nuisance, he added.
