Police send reports to DMs for acquisition of illegal properties of 38 criminals worth over Rs 38.15 crore

Uttarakhand police have sent reports to respective district magistrates for the acquisition of illegal property worth over Rs 38.15 crore of 38 criminals under the Gangster Act. The police have also marked the illegal properties of 14 accused worth Rs 2.58 crore under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and sent its report to the competent authority in Delhi to take further action, as per the information provided by police headquarters.
The police have already seized property worth Rs three lakh of an accused and are working to mark illegal properties of 60 accused under the NDPS Act. All these actions were taken in the past two months. The director general of police Ashok Kumar launched a two-month campaign on December 1, 2022 to arrest absconding or wanted criminals and to take special action for the acquisition of their illegal property under the NDPS Act and Gangster Act accordingly.
In the intensive campaign of two months, the police arrested 791 wanted criminals and took action to attach the illegally earned property of 60 criminals. The police also served notice to 1,013 criminals to appear before police officers under section 41(A) of CrPC. Besides this, the police also arrested 264 absconding accused who had bounties on their heads. In view of the campaign’s success, the DGP has extended the duration of the campaign by one month. He said that besides taking action against the accused charged under NDPS and Gangster acts in this campaign, the police would also take action against 300 absconding prisoners who were released on parole.
