Dehradun Police on Wednesday closed 61 spa centres and recovered a total fine of Rs 2.7 lakh from 32 centres after several irregularities were found during the checking campaign. The senior superintendent of police Daleep Singh Kunwar said that in view of getting frequent complaints of irregularities in the operation of spa centres and massage parlours in the district, all police station in-charges have been directed to conduct surprise checking campaigns of spa centres running in their respective areas to take action against irregularities as per the law. As per the order, the police conducted a checking campaign in several spa and massage centres located in areas like Raipur, Dalanwala, Nehru Colony, Vasant Vihar, Rajpur and Patel Nagar where 61 spa centres were found to be violating the law. The police shut down these centres and also imposed a fine of Rs 2.7 lakh on 32 spa centres. The police said that the SSP had already issued guidelines for the operation of such centres. As per the guidelines, it is mandatory to keep a record of all the necessary details of all customers visiting the centre. All such establishments must install CCTV cameras in their premises as per the norms and keep footage of recordings. Therapist appointed in spa centres should be a trained person with eligible qualifications as appointing unskilled therapists is against the law. The SSP has also directed the police to verify degrees and documents of therapists working in spa centres. He said that strict action should be taken against those possessing fake degrees or appointing such ineligible employees to mislead customers and the authorities.
